Do It Yourself - Metal Analysis in Biological and Medical Samples

Live Webinar: Wednesday, 27 January 2019

Session I: 9 am GMT, 10 am CET, 5 pm CST, 6 pm JST

Register for Session I

Session II: 8 am PST, 11 am EST, 4 pm GMT, 5 pm CET

Register for Session II

(The content of both sessions is identical.)

This one-hour webinar will demonstrate the use of Total reflection X-Ray Fluorescence (TXRF) spectroscopy in biopharmaceutical, clinical and biological research.

Today, the crucial role of metals for cellular and subcellular functions is well recognized.

  • The divalent cations Zn2+, Ca2+ and Mg2+ prevent cytotoxicity and in vivo antagonize Cd-induced carcinogenesis.
  • Lack of body iron is common in cancer patients and it is associated with complications in surgery and in animal experiments. The transport of iron and other metal ions by the blood plasma is achieved through the formation of protein complexes.
  • Copper is recognized as an essential element and is primarily associated with copper-dependent cellular enzymes triggering redox reactions or for the stabilization of protein particulates.

In addition, it is well known that a number of toxic metals can inhibit enzyme functions, which leads to serious health issues.

TXRF spectrometers are plug-and-play systems for all laboratory environments providing fast and accurate results of even minute sample amounts. This webinar will give you an overview about element analysis of enzymes and the investigation of Alzheimer’s disease.

If you are interested in the outstanding performance of TXRF for the analysis of biochemical and medical samples this webinar will give you information about the rapid sample preparation and the ease of use of this technique.

In a 15 minute Q&A session our experts will answer your questions.

Who should attend?

  • Researchers of the (bio)pharmaceutical industry
  • Scientists, postdoctoral fellows, students at biological or biochemistry institutes and research centers
  • Physicians and chemists at hospitals and clinical research facilities
  • Researchers in analytical chemistry with interest for new technologies and methods

Speakers

  • Dr. Po-Wah So, Preclinical Facilities Manager, King's College London
  • Dr. Hagen Stosnach, Application Scientist TXRF, Bruker Nano Analytics
